Pronounced "halapeno". Very popular thick-walled, medium heat chilli pepper that is commonly picked at the green unripe stage. The heat level can vary from mild to hot depending on ripeness and growing conditions. Picking a plant encourages it to set more fruit. 2,500-8,000 Scoville Heat Units
